View Full Version : decanting of liquid from thawed foods

In addition to nori, I feed my tank about 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of frozen mysis daily. I melt in a shot glass of tank water then add directly to display.

Know that it's recommended practice to decant the liquid off before adding, but haven't. Thought liquid might be a benefit to my clam and corals, any merit in this thinking?

btw, tanks been up for a year and just started to get little bit of cyano. Testing for nitrates (Salifert) and phosphates (Hagen) show zero.

I always rinse any frozen food I put in my tanks off really well with water from my tap. It's pretty clean well water so no chlorine. Then after the rinse I soak it in clean tank water with garlic extract and vita-chem. After about 10 mins of soaking i drain it all back into the brine shrimp net and then put it back into my container with clean tank water to feed the tanks with. I have read many articles that have said that you can introduce many nasty diseases and parasites to your fish if you don't thoroughly rinse frozen foods.
