the bucket i'm dripping into doesn't need a heater does it? will the drip water warm the bucket i'm dripping into?

I generally don't heat the water when I drip acclimate and I haven't lost a single creature in doing so (or not in this case). That's just me though.

just wondering cuz my tank water is right at 80......the drip bucket is like 73 or so.

i think most float the bag in the tank to get the temps matching, then drip..

ya i floated for about 30 minutes which i believe is enough time to bring the temp up.

but when dripping for 2 hourse the temp goes down......how much is too much?

What are you aclimating? 2 hours is way to long except for very finicky inverts.

I give fish usually a quick 45 minute drip.

cleaner shrimp.....too long?

no, not for shrimp. An hour and a half would be enough depending on the drip rate. A fish can run out of oxygen very quickly during a drip whick is why I asked.

2 hours is pretty safe with a cleaner shrimp.

here is the thing about floating the bag, you're equalizeing the temprature; then the temp drops off during aclimation; then it goes up (for the animal) when you add it to the tank.

Seems to me like maybe this would be more stressful? I don;t know, I'm over analizing.

drip from the main tank while floating the bag in the sump(if you have one)

I've stopped using the drip method and moved to floating and then adding a cup of tank water every 10-15 min for the next hour. Haven't lost a fish or invert yet.

If the temperature in the room is average room temp (say around 68-72) then the drip method is warming up the bucket by itself. When your dripping the warm water into the bucket, it is slowly warming up the water, as well as other chemical activities (ph raising, etc).

After you have doubled the water in the bucket with the drip (about 45-60 minutes depeding how fast you adjust your drip), remove about half the water and do the drip again (about another 30-45 minutes). That is the best way to do the drip method.

Temp, pH, and all the other stuff will have equalized with the parameters in your tank.

And don't forget the freshwater dip before you put the fish in your QT!!
