Hi,

I just purchased a house and I want to put a 90 gallon reef tank in the first floor. The floor is made of wood and I am just worried that the weight might collapse my floor to the basement. Is it recommended to have a tank this huge when you have a basement? Anyone knows of someone who had this problem?

I have a 90 on the first floor with my sump plumbed into the basment no problems.

I have a 225 on the first floor with sump in basement. ITs six foot long, and placed across 4 floor joist with a supporting wall built in the basement.

I can't remember who posted this but I kept the link. This article http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/aquarium_weight.php by Kevin Bauman does an excellent job in explaining the myths about the question of how much weight a floor can support.

If your floor is the standard wood flooring, it should have a sub-flooring and then cross beam joist under that. 90g is nothing for any floor, unless there no support at all under your floors. Go to the basement and see if you have joists under there.

should be ok. I have a 90 on a second floor but it spans over four joists
