I am setting up a new 50 Gal., the protien skimmer will be the only source of external filtration, I am considering the AquaC Remora Pro with the Mag 350, is there a better option in this same price range? Please keep in mind it must be a HOT or in tank option. Thanks in advance for the help!

The question for you is how much are you willing to spend?

There are a number of HOT skimmers that will woop that Remora Pro.

Deltec MCE600 http://www.deltecaquariumsolutions.com/skimmers_2.php this one being the most expensive $400-$500 range.

Reef Octopus http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=1013

Or even the Coralife SS http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_protein_skimmers_coralife_super_needle_wheel_venturi_system.asp?CartId=

I love my coralife ss now. It took me a while to get it dialed in, but now, I dont have to touch anything and it skims really well. There are also a number of pretty well documented mods you can do to the SS. I would recommend at least taking a look at the coralife SS 125 for your system. It is very inexpensive.

I appreciate the help! I was looking at the Coralife SS but from what I heard the only drawback is that they have a tendency to overflow, my wife would not appreciate that. Would love to have the Deltec, but I just blew most my budget on a Maristar light setup. So from what you all are saying, the Remora is not worth the money, and I need to keep looking.

Yes. There are much better HOT skimmers out there for less than the Remora Pro
