Can't give you a response about the 80 watter; I have the 25 watter but I still own a "Aquarium Fish" magazine, from 1994, that detailed the whole exposure time, bulb distance, gph, and virus/bacteria that you want to zap. The max number that they give is not what you would want to run through the sterilizer. If anything you want to go slow, real slow through the sterilizer in order to maximize exposure of the UV rays on what ever it is you want to zap. I ran mine from a cannister filter that put out about 330 gph (but it was probably less than that) and never had a problem with ick. My tang did contract Lateral line errosion but that has nothing to do with viruses, parasites, or bacteria. He lived for about eight years btw.
Remember: Change the bulb every six months (I know, they're expensive) and clean, clean, clean that Quartz jacket at least once a month.
There is a formula that calculates how many times your entire system is completely sterilised in a 24 hour period. In other words you could maximize the life of the bulb by putting the unit on a time clock.
Hope this helped
