I am thinking about buying an MR-3 from myreefcreations.com and I didn't see anywhere if you can run that skimmer in sump.
Does anyone know if I can run that skimmer in sump.
Also is there a better or cheaper skimmer that is rated for 500 gallons that anyone recommends?
Well you can run it in sump. But the pressure rated pumps needed to drive that skimmer are external pumps. You can run one on say... A mag pump, but you will never see the skimmer perform to it's full potential.
So that leaves you with a few options such as looking into different skimmers, settling on a lesser pump that will not satisfy your 500 gallon demands, running an external pump with the skimmer in sump or moving the skimmer out of the sump:)
A lot of decisions:D

Do some research on the new ATi Bubblemaster 250, rated up to 500g heavy, 700g normal.

I have a MR-2 with dual becketts in sump. It works great. Very good skimmer! I use a blue line 55 external pump to feed it.
