I have just begun to learn how to use this new D50 that I got. To that point, I got the itch to try some pics in a dark room with only the moonlights on. So, I used aperature priority, went to the largest F stop I could, ended up with a 30 sec shutter, 400 ISO, and here is what I got......I like the way the polyps blur because of the long shutter.

Would love to hear some thoughts...is there a way to get more exposure without getting it washed out?

You could buy a Canon :)

It looks like you're using a tripod which is good. All I can really suggest (i'll let the real photography experts chime in with the tech stuff) is that you could turn all of your pumps off in the tank - if that would allow the polyp's to sway less and the light to refract constantly throughout the exposure.

My 2 cents..

You can't ask the camera to do more than its capabilities. The camera needs light. This has been true from film to digital. You can crank up the iso to its fullest, open the aperature and then its up to the shutter speed. But everything has to be perfectly still. Unless of course you want to go IR.
