RBTA in new tank

I switched over a tank from a 65 gal to a 58, ... the RBTA has been in the 65 for over 2 years and very happy and healthy.

I tried to place it as close to the same position as it was in the 65, but now in the 58, it is not stretching out into the light, ...

Is it safe to assume that it will move a bit out so it can again be happy? And how long should it be before I notice it happy? Or I should say, when do I start worrying?

I figure since they can move, it should settle in and make itself happy where ever that is, correct?

I would say patience will be helpful. Yes, they can move to find a happy spot. Regardless of how closely you mimicked things from the existing tank there's still going to be subtle differences.

When you set up this tank did you use the same everything? Sand, rocks, water, etc...? Just curious, sometimes they can still go through little miniature cycles that can stress some things.

yes i did, so not much change at all i think

The move was probably pretty stressful nonetheless, so keep an eye on things and make sure your parameters are all a-okay.

Did you acclimate them to the new tank? Or just drop them in?

no need to acclimate, as all the same water rock and sand was used
change-over took less than 2 hours

Ahhhhhhhh! Missed that! But stirring up the sand bed could cause a nitrate spike, and you could have also had a drop in temp. How did you get the sand to settle so fast? I would keep testing your water chemistry.

Just give the RBTA some time to get use to its surroundings.

perhaps the flow patterns in the new tank are different. you could try playing with that.

well I know that is true, because the old tank had an overflow, and the new tank is reef-ready, and the return comes from the other end of the tank, i.e. the left side now, as opposed tot he right, ...
