do you have to shake your 1 gallon jug once in a while ?

Just wondering if the jugs of Recipe 1 or 2 need to be shaken once in a while ? Or once the Recipe is in the jug, you can just dose and that's all there is to it.

Just asking, because I'm looking at setting up my system with automatic dosing.

Also, should my doser dose Recipe 1 when the pH is below 8.3 and dose Recipe 2 when the pH in the aquarium is higher then 8.3 ?

i would pick a recipe that best suits your needs and stick with it it rather than try and switch back and forth.

If it properly mixed to begin with i don't think it needs to be shaken . its good to go until it is empty.

But, just wondering..should I start dosing when I setup my reef..when I put the rocks and sand in ? How will I know what my pH is..I'll have to wait a couple of weeks before to know what my pH is right ?

I wouldn't start adding anything until the tank is fully cycled

Alk and CA if mixed fully the first time should not settle and can be used for automatic dosing.

The Magnesium portion however if you mixing up gallon at a time jugs, it will settle so you do have to shake before adding so best no to try to automate the Magnesium.
