View Full Version : No ammonia yet

I am just starting a tank cycle. It has been about a week and no ammonia yet. It is a 125gal with just 10lbs so far of live rock. I am waiting on another 50 lbs of rock. Is it the lack of rock? I am also using carbon in the sump. Could that be the reason? Or am I just being inpatient?

10 lbs of rock in 125, even after you add the other 50, depending on how much die off there is, you may not ever see ammonia.

Are you adding any ammonia source, or just letting the rock take care of it? Either way, it is best to just be patient and let things develop.

This was my plan...I added 10lbs uncurred to cycle the tank. I left all of the organic material on it to decompose. I will have 50 lbs fully curred to add to this. I am not expecting this 50lbs to add to my cycle. I will be finishing with about 70 lbs of dry base rock. Am I off base here?
Thanks for your input

I would expect some measureable level of ammonia within the next week but with that much water volume and only 10 lbs. of LR, you may not see any.
