A pic should say it best. And yes, it can and is used as a substitute for Dowflake.

I use the 'improved' two-part mix detailed in ReefKeeping.
Link (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php)
That coupled up with the use of NSW from UCSB has my corals growing like mad.
I cut a ric in half two days ago and the two pieces are already back to being circular and about 90% the original size.
My experimental SPS's in the prop system are also growing like crazy - AND THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN IN THERE SINCE TUESDAY! I don't even have MH on the system. They are under fluorescents!

Quick question.......................
Just bought a 8 lb container of the Hardness Plus from Leslie's.....................
Randy's mixture calls for 2 1/2 cups of Dowflake per gallon of water, which he lists at 77-80% calcium chloride).......................Lelie's Hardness Plus is listed at 94-97%.......What are you guys mixing your part one at??..............By my calculations, I should use about 2 cups per gallon of water, but I wanted an opinion or two before I go ahead.............
Thanks in advance,
Steve :D

Steve,
I just thought about that last night IF i were to do the two part solution. I was going to use the Leslie's stuff to adjust my batches of salt mixes instead of spending $8 on a cup of Turbo Calcium so I don't know the answer to your question.
If I were to do Randy's two part, I was going to just buy the recipe from here: http://www.twopartsolution.com/

Steve I just used 70% dry weight of turbo cal which I think is also 94-97% cal. If you look at randys new formula he has some recommendations of what to use weight wise. I've been using this for about 3 weeks and I am realy liking the results. My cal has been stable at 450 and alk at 9.5. I also notice a faster growth then with the cal reactor.

Mchava,
How much do you dose daily? How much mL's? I was thinking about trying it out myself
Mchava
02/04/2007, 02:22 PM
for my tank which happens to be the same size of your iam doing 150ml of both the ca and alk. I used randys chemical calculator to figure out how much my tank need. I did this by taking a mesurement of both the alk and ca. Then I waited 24hr and did the same thing. That is how i figured out how much to use.

Anybody using Leslie's?????
I trust everyone's judgement, but I'd rather have an apples to apples comparison to go by.......................I've got way too much time & energy in my tanks to crash them by mixing too strong........

Steve, try the 2 cups first. You're my experiemental lab rat :D
