Has anyone had any experience with this clear pvc?

It seems like it would be a good solution as opposed to using the plain old white PVC.

It's very expensive to use, and the least bit of light would show algae in the clear parts.

No but it looks cool, but overall I think you would see stuff adhere to the inside and it might look yucky. Anything in the display might work out if you dry fit and clean it often.
