Most kitchen and bath silicone has an anti fungal / mould chemical in it that would not be good in a reef tank ! Most of the kitchen and bath silicone has a note on the back in the instructions and or ingredients that say "not for aquarium use".

any commercially available silicone that isnt designed for aquariums will have amounts of anti fungal and mold resistance. Its required to meet building codes.

edit:

its not always going to be listed on the tube. they are not required to label them.

With all that will be at risk here, I'd order the large caulk gun tube of aquarium sealant and be done with it. I wouldnt risk using anything that wasnt marked or labled for aquarium use.

check www.marinedepot.com

trust me. ive been in in contsruction for many years. not to burst your bubble, but ALL comercial silicone has some amount of chemicals in it. Listen to henry bowman. the last thing you need is your hard work flushed down the drain and than redone.
