Anyone using any of the Tunze DOC series skimmers on thier tanks? I'm thinking about one for my 45gal reef. I always liked them and love the fact they are so compact. I have a sump design that is very tight. How are they working in your sumps.

Any feedback much apreciated. Thanks

I run a Doc 9210 on my 125g. I like the performance a lot, and the fact that it doesn't sterilize the tank of all life. But you have to keep the water level constant, no doubt about that.

BARBRA, DO YOU RUN IT IN A SUMP?

Yes, it's in my sump. If I were to redesign the sump I would section it off so that the water remains at the most constant level possible, the adjustment range Tunze claims is just under an inch I think, but in practice I would say that while it will function within that range, optimum performance is only acheived if the water level varies by 1/8 or less.

I run the 9005 in the sump/refugium of my 36 bowfront. I love it, its dead silent, and i hate noise, i couldnt be happier. i have the sump kit on it, and i get about 100ml of dark brown stuff a week. I do have it in its own section to maintain a constant water level.
Also, just to let you know, so you dont start freaking out (like i did haha) it took about two weeks before i really started getting some foam.

Hope this helps!

I have a Tunze 9010 in my sump. It is quiet, compact in size, and collects a cup of skimmate daily from my heavily stocked system.

I recommend the 9010 because the sump kit is included. The 9005 plus the sump kit is almost the price of the 9010. Go with the 9010.
