So at the moment i have a 45 gallon that is lit by a 250 watt mh 12 hours a day.

Ive been cycling a 90 gallon for a month. My lighting scheme for the 90 at the MOMENT is

2 hours of t-5 actinics
2 - 250 watt mh's come on for 8 hrs (while t5s are still on)
mh pops off
t5 actinics for 2 hrs

all lights off

Nothings in the 90 at the moment but live rock and clean up crew. I was going to keep this lighting scheme, but im second guessing haveing the mh's on for only 8 hrs a day with my 2 bubble tips.

what do u guys think? what do you do?

thanks as always
Maggie

I honestly think that that will be more than enough time. In my 58g, I have a BTA and a purple LTA, my MHs ( 2 * 175 ) are on for 8 hours a day. Both nems are doing great. The BTA has been under these lights for 3 years now.

Heck, in my 75 my 4 RBTA and 1 BTA are doing great under 6 *55 PC lights that are 10 hours a day, and "only" 8 of those hours are all 6 on.

I do ten hours of 250W MH on my 30 cube... since the 90's are so tall I don't see why you couldn't do 10 hours of halide and 2 hours of actinic only.

How much longer are you going to wait until you put your E. Quadriocolor anemones in that 90?

i donno!!!! Im super duper nervous.

It started with base rock and new sand that DID cause a cyclke (diatoms, then green algea 'poofs' then more diatoms.
I added about 30 pounds of LR from my reef over a few weeks time (cant really move anymore till the nems and fish come out)

When I do water changes on it I use water from my 45 gal reef to replace water from the 90

Just recently ammonia nitrite and nitrate became 0..... About 40 hermits and 30 snails are living in there with no issues. I added the red polyps in there 2 days ago, and theyre fine.

But I might wait a whole nother month. Just out of freakingoutness lol

I'm going through the same thing, just got water in my 180 today.
Hoping to transfer in one month.
Mine get about 8 hrs MH and 10 1/2 hrs T-5.
All seem happy.
The more light, the more heat IMO.
Good luck w/ the move!

Well, that's what I'm shooting for.
I do already have about 180lbs of LR that's been established for a long time.
I put piles of LS from my established tank.
I'm going to add the top 1/2" of my established sand to new tank along w/ 1/3 of my rock in about a week or so, plus dumping old water in new tank.
Of course my tank will decide how soon I'll be able to switch.
I think adding everything from my 90 will be a big plus.
