They're ok out of the box, but with a couple mods, they will perform like skimmers that cost much more. You just have to be comfortable making some changes to your new skimmer.

Yes, I do have a modified ASM G2 (on my 72).

I have a g4+ what mods do you recommend, its pretty darn good stock as far as i can tell

Gate valve, and or mesh wheel.

For 75G ASM-G3 will do just fine without recirc or meshwheel mod. If you start overloading your bio-system then definatelly do abovementioned mods.

Gate valve mod IMHO is a must!!!

My first recommendation is to recirculate and direct feed it from the display. This will make the single biggest performance gain on any non-recircing skimmer. The direct feed will ensure all proteins enter the skimmer body where they have the opportunity to be skimmed.

As far as the gate valve, I'm really on the fence about that one. I havent bothered because I dont find it all that inconvenient to adjust the riser pipe. If the skimmer is set right constant adjustment isn't needed anyway.

The mesh wheel is a mod I am thinking about, but haven't had the chance to do it. It does seem really promising for any needle wheel skimmer.
