I got some mushrooms about a month or so ago that were reallying opening up nicely and were awesome purplish with blue spots. I've noticed lately that they haven't been opening up nearly as large as they used to. They used to look like this all the time

But now they are kinda shriveled up. Kinda sucks because they are one of my favorite things in the tank. Everything else in the tank seems fine though.

Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 0
Nitrites: 0
pH: 8.3
Temp: 78-80F
Salinity: 1.030 (a little high I know, but they have been doing this long before)

well your sg is way high. You need to get that down to 1.025 pronto. That might help, regardless of them doing this before the fact that it was high.

What light do you have over them? Have you added any? And have you added any flow?

My shrooms dont open when they're in full light so i have to put them in shady areas.

Im running a 96w fixture, haven't added anything in a while, and haven't added any flow.

Anyone?

Not an expert and don't have pimpled mushrooms (sorry!), but my plain red and green hairy mushrooms are doing better when some food is present in the water. I have a few tanks, and which are receiving more food and have alkalinity around 10 dKH - they are doing better. BTW, I'm keeping SG 1.026 intentionally.

And you may try to move them closer to the lights.

Here, at RC, is specialized Corallimorfarians forum - you may get more help there.

Drop your salinity to 1.025 and see if they make a come back! your lighting is not too strong and they should be O.k.

Salinity is back at 1.025 and all parameters are good. I'll see what happens.

Still not doing what they used to. :/

Is that a Kenya tree in the pic? I had a mushroom do that next to a Kenya tree and when I put more distance between them my shroom got happy again. Just a thought.

Well after moving the Kenya tree the mushrooms kinda shriveled up. I tried moving them to a different spot today.

You might try running some chemipure, in case you are having some chemical warfare. IMO it is some really good stuff.

I will look into that. Thanks.

It never ceases to amaze me the different shrooms you guys find that I have never seen. Like the way your spotties look, can't wait for you to post a "happy" pic of them.

The picture in the first post was a 'happy' picture of them. They aren't too happy right now for some reason. I've tried rearranging some stuff to see how they do.

They will get happier hopefully. LOL Mine, althought not spotted, are roughly the size of tennis balls or slightly bigger.

Still not coming out like they used to. :(

How is your water flow? they like to have low flow if possible. otherwise, it won't open up as big.

There is very little flow if any blowing them. They aren't even moving. Even in the same spot as they used to be with more flow then they have now they were fine, then one day they just stopped opening all the way.
