BioWheel 280??

So I set up a 40gal reef tank about 3 weeks ago with a Biowheel HOB filter and a cheap skimmer, I finally got courage to go buy a CPR Bakpak 2R today and I was trying to deside if I should still run my BioWheel (with no wheel) just the carbon for more water flow? Also the filter sprays like 4 things of water onto the wheel and now that the wheel is gone its really loud can I get that water to stop so how? Thanks

The bio-wheel and similar biological meda sometimes lead to higher nitrate levels in tanks, so I avoid using them. If you haven't add any animals yet, I'd ditch them. I don't know how to make the filter more quiet, though.
