I am using the Prestone Driveway Heat for Randay's two part, recipe #2 for the first time. I added 1 cup of PDH to a gallon of water, and it didn't even get warm. Is that normal or is there some problem? I am using RO water. Everyone says it gets really hot. I don't think the temp went up a couple of degrees.

I guess I am paranoid because it is just whackey that something that melts ice and in sufficient quanity will kill lawn can be added to a reef tank. I want to make sure I don't foul anything up.

Thanks.

The more water you use, the less the temp will rise. It may not rise that much in a full gallon. Try dissolving a little in a small amount of water (like 50% water, 50% PDH). That should get hot. :)

I also used the PDH. I put 2 cups into one gal of Ro/DI water and it did get warm. Maybe just one cup isn't enough to get the heat going.

Thanks, makes sense. I exepcted to smell my bucket melting and in turn the spoon came out not even warm. I thought something was amiss. 1 cup/gallon for recipe #2 using PDH is the right amount or plenty close right?

I have read your article Randy like 10 times, I just don't want to screw up.

Thanks.

Sorry.. My Bad.. I use recipe 1 so I use 2 cups. 1 cup is right for recipe 2.

No worries mate. I assumed that. I was just concerned MY math was off with the 1 1/4 cups - 20% using the PDH. Needed a double check of the arithmetic.

Thanks

2 cups in a half gallon of water is enough to deform the plastic milk jug.
