i got 2 frags of the Montipora coral, and i was trying to think about long term mounting. i have a few larger stable rocks to mount it to, but not sure how to mount it... well what position to mount it.

i think the main thing is that i am not sure how this coral will grow? i am thinkin it grows wide and then grows up in plates? so i am going to make a medium height and wide area for it to grow? and i was thinkin about a rock about the size of two fists?

how did you guys mount your Montipora? i am sure it needs to be alittle larger then just rubble, atleast enough for it to be stable in the current right? anyways, let me know what you guys think, i for some glue and some rocks on stand by to start glueing... hahahahhaa...

I just superglue the underside to a rock....................

Take the rock out of the tank & "dry fit" the monti...................take notice of where the bottom of the cap makes contact w/ the rock............apply superglue gel to these areas, replace the monti cap & let dry for 2-3 minutes...............put the rock back in the tank..........

Simple...............

On Garf.org they say if you mount it vertically it will grow multiple horizontal plates.

has anyone tried the vertical mounting? this is the first time i've heard of this, but multiple horizontal plates do sound interesting..

slight incline vertical mount is the way to go to get interesting growth patterns quicker.

I make a grovve with a file, lay down a bead of superglue gel, place frag edge into grove, dip in saltwater and remove, tack weld with superglue strategic points on underside, amd dip again. Dip skins over superglue and starts hardening.

you can then clay like epoxy the mounted frag onto a bigger rock after some grow out and base encrusting and you find a good spot.
