Maybe this belongs in the aquaculture forum, so maybe I will post there as well, but I know here this will get the most amount of replies.
Lugol's Iodine recommendation is 1 drop per 25G of volume, once weekly.
1) Would one drop every 1.75 days ( 42 hours) have the same effect in soft coral health and growth?
They also explicitly tell you not to overdose.
2) Would one drop daily be too much iodine if a tank is packed with soft corals ( and a few SPS and LPS)?
Plese let me know your thoughts.

Felipe

There's really no good answer of how much iodine to dose. Most animals get their iodine from their food, not dissolved iodine. There isn't much evidence that they need or could care less about iodine levels unless they get too high and poisons them. There is really no way to know whether or not a given rate of dosing is overdosing or not without testing. Unfortunately, since iodine occurs in several forms in seawater, none of the hobby tests are particularly accurate.

keep up on water changes (small weekly ones are best) and iodine really doesn't need to be added. If you do add it just do it slow through time so you can observe changes in the tank. Algae will def. grow more. If you have any algae issues now, i wouldn't even consider it.

If you want to add an iodine supplement make sure you are testing for it. Also from what I understand corals don't use iodine at all, bbut do use iodide, they're supplements that are only iodide for this purpose. Just my two cents.
