i use DE 14k phoenix bulbs on my 75g tank and i'm just wondering who out there has similar lighting or if most ppl use 2x175w (or less?)

one of the main reasons i ask is i have a pink birdsnest who started bleaching but was a good 20 inches away from the light. it has been sitting in the shade for a few weeks getting its color back.

thanks!

I have a 90 gal. (48" x 24" x 18") which I believe is simliar to a 75 gal. except the 75 gal. is only 18" tall. I run (2) 250 Watt XM 10,000K MH + (2) 110 Watt VHO Actinics. I believe you should be fine.

I have a pink birdsnest and it is fussy. I lost my first frag to just dying off. My second did awesome about 6"-8" below the water. But I had a kalk reactor problem and it bleached alot. So, it's now slowly recovering.

If it is coloring back up and doing good, I'd leave it were it is for now and keep an eye on it. Maybe you could slowly move it back up once it has recovered. HTH

how far from the surface do you keep the lights?

i'm doing quite a few different things right now to balance out my tank, but i've always wondered if my lighting is off.

I don't think it's too much. I am running 2 X 250 10k's and 2 overdriven no fluorescents(65 watts each) on my 55. 11.5 watts per gallon total.

I run 2x250 10k w/ T5 actinics (don't remember wattage, but it really doesn't matter) over my 75g and everything grows wonderfully. I even have a pink birdsnest ;) and my stags and caps grow ridiculously fast. My light hangs about 8" from the surface (right at the edge of my "top").
I would consider flow as well. I've got 2 modded MJ900s (easy to build) in addition to my Mag 9 return.

My lights are about 8" from the surface.
