That definitely does not sound encouraging, I'm sorry to say. Tangs are swimmers and when they start laying down, it's usually a bad precursor.
Hopefully he'll eat the Nori.
They'll eat anything, but they thrive on anything with a green veggie base. Algaes, frozen spinach, nori.
Hopefully it's not too late, but it doesn't sound good.

You said he was doing good, but you never saw him eat. You have to try anything to get new fish eating, even live sometimes to get them going. Fish have to be adapted to flake and pellet food. I'm afraid by what yo described that it's already too late for him. I wont even get into a Naso in a 55.

I tried the seweed on a clip and still nothing. he was up and swimming around again. i have tried everything to get him to eat. i think i might give him to a friend with a 90 gallon to see if it would even make a difference. It is a little guy, so i still think he should have been fine for awhile.

I had a female Naso for almost 10 years and OSI Spirulina flakes were the only thing I could ever get her to eat.

My Naso won't touch flake or pellets. At first he would only eat live macro algaeRed Gracilaria (http://www.marinedepotlive.com/aquacultured-ogo-gracilaria.html) . Then I got him started on Brown Seaweed Selects. He also loves frozen brine shrimp now.
Naso's naturally eat Brown algae in the wild. I would suggest getting the brown seaweed selects.

Another thing to consider is that Tangs tend to get stomach parasites. Check out the disease forum for info.
