Hey, I have this guy - from outwards appearances it looks a little like anthellia, but is is super short, and it closes up entirely - each head almost looks like a closed individual GSP polyp when closed up. I have no idea where it came from too. Some sort of clove? I am stumped!

My guess is clove polyps, just a guess though. Nice coloring whatever it is.

Looks like a goni to me.

No, too small to be cloves, and definately not a goni - it is a soft coral (and gonis have 24 "petals" on each stalk.

still looks like a clavaria sp. of some sort, some clove corals are small like that

I have an unidentified clove polyp colony that is around 50 polyps or so- and less than the size of a dime.

each polyp was the size of a dime? thats about how big all cloves are

a going to say its definitely a clavaria sp. of some sort

Have a colony of those and was told it is a blue clove polpy.

maybe pipe organs?

Are polyps interconnected by stolons?
It's difficult to properly ID from that pic- but based solely on that picture I would guess it's a type of Calvularia

No offence...... who cares! No seriously, it's very nice. I like the little polyps and the color is just pretty.

I don't believe that was a necessary.

My reference to the Who cares....... was simply a lighthearted joke about the back and forth of classification of this coral.
Thus the Seriously statement afterwards, was my true comment to the original poster of this thread.

It may be hard for you to believe, although I never recall seeing you, ever in the lounge, I happen to have true interest in this hobby. Unless you have been tracking my I don't see how you can make the statement that I have strayed from the lounge. I spend more time in the other forums READING & LEARNING than I do in the lounge. :eek1:

It appears to me my post was more directed to the thread than your was. If you have a problem with my posts in the future I would appreciate the consideration that I WOULD have given to you. :)

I checked back into this thread so that I could see if anyone yet had an answer for the poster. I am going to check back again because I happen to be looking for corals that have varying colors to add some splash to my tanks.

Just because I don't post in the lounge doesn't mean I don't visit there.:eek1:
Nobody questioned your interest in the hobby.
My reference was a lighthearted joke regarding the lounge- thus the winking smiley. ---> ;)
I'm sincerely sorry about the misunderstanding, Aliie

I still think Clavularia is the best ID guess based on that one picture.

Aliie, it was a joke. Jeese.

I can't believe the whole colony is the size of a dime. That must be a pretty good camera then.

No that colony isnt the size of a dime, and it isnt a pipe organ, It has to be a type of clove polyp

Do u have any pic of the dime sized colony, that would be cool to see

I don`t have a camera that can get down that low. I might try the wifes old 35mm though- in which case see ya in a year! The only way that i can even make them out is with a magnifying glass right against the tank glass. I have 5 colonies growing about an inch or so from the front glass so i can study them, so if i can get a macro camera its doable.

thats pretty cool, I went to my LFS the other day and saw some pretty small ones, I think the colony was about three inches and probably 150 polyps, no where close to as small as yours though.

I believe they're sansibia flava. A lot of these have been coming into the Bay Area for the past few weeks.

Ooulophilia

I have seen sansiba before, and it does not really close - these polyps close up enitirely to the point where you cannot see them

Second look they're different than what I've got.
How big are the polyps?
Atlantis and RandyO have them IDed as clavularia.
Mind if I ask where you got them?

Ooulophilia

Found them in LA - polyps are smaller and shorter than sansiba, and do not move, even in heavy flow. I think it is probably a type of clavularia, albeit a very small and cool colored one.
