Rating of a DIY skimmers?

Has anyone figured out how to rate your own DIY skimmer?
Is it done by the pump size, or the size of the body of the skimmer? Maybe by the volume of water flow? Just curious.

You could compare your DIY to a commercial skimmer with similar specs. Then use the rating of the commercial skimmer.
