View Full Version : Fluoride to treat AEFW?

Poking around on google I stumbled on some high school kid's experiment testing the effects of sodium fluoride on planaria (flatworms). The experiment found that activity and reproduction slowed with higher levels of fluoride, eventually killing the planaria.

This looked interesting given the large number of people who have been finding AEFW.

I don't have any infected corals to experiment with, but I am sure some of you do... has anyone tested AEFW growth/reproduction/survivability in high fluoride levels? Does anyone know what effect raising the fluoride level would have on fish, corals, and other inverts?

ESV sells a bromide fluoride supplement, so it appears that at the least fluoride is not outright toxic to corals... I wonder whether AEFW are affected by fluoride levels and if so whether other tank inhabitants could survive elevated fluoride levels.

Anyone have any thoughts or feel like experimenting?

Tagging. You may want to cross-post this in the chemistry forum, and see what Randy thinks.
