AWESOME, how much did you have to give for them, if you don't mind me asking? Just wondering cause the prices of O.S.'s seem to be going up more and more all the time.

Paid 36 for the male and 22 for the female.

He is in a 29 gal, she is in the 24 gal, and our N. wennerae has the 55 gal.

how were you able to tell the difference between their sex? from gonopores and gonopods? and can you post pictures of the male and female from similar angles?

You can't do it from these animals. If the one shown is a male, it is not mature sexually and will not show the typical mature male trait.

I have never been here before and stopped by tosee what else is out there and WOW! Those are some really great pics.
So why can't you have a male and female both in the same tank?

Can't keep 2 mantis shrimp in same tank. Highly territorial and agressive

cant keep two peacocks and most smashers in the same tank, spearers can dig new burrows and there is no need for them to fight over a burrow especially if the other is a smashing species, P ciliata though seems to be much more aggressive then other spearing types of stomatopods

what they said, plus there are some species that form monogamous pairs and will live together quite happily. But dont get your hopes up because a) larvae are extremely hard to rear ad b) these species are very hard to obtain unless for academic research.

if you think it is too hard to keep care of the 3 i will take the male off of your hands for 50 plus shipping

Well, P cilata is a Smasher re-evolved back into a spearer, so it's temperment is that of a smasher. I have two, and one (Tiamat) is very aggressive, though she is also very interactive with me, not always trying to threaten me.
The other (Mephistopheles ) is much more mellow, at least in regards to me, and he spends more time poking out of has burrow, like a typical spearer.

P cilata is a great species for an aquarium, and I would highly recommend them, btw...

Msby12--we found them at a local store called Scales.

matty-- thanks for the offer but taking care of them is really not a big deal to me. 4 saltwater tanks and not a complaint one from my husband.

Aliie-- He really makes taking the pics easy because he is so big. The female is a bit harder to get a good pic of since she is about a quarter his size and can hide quite easily.

That picture of your N.wennera is just way too cool. Reminds me of a Lion peaking out of the grass to see where the Antelope are.
