First and foremost let me thank anyone who can help me in regards to my problems. I recently delved into this hobby thinking that I could get advice as how to get started and then take off running. What I didn't know is that everybody does things differently and now I am lost. Ok my set up is I have an Emperor 400 with biowheels, a Maxi-Jet 900, currently 17 pounds of live rock, and 40 pounds of crushed coral. Now what I want to get to is a two clown fish set up with an anemone. I have not purchased any specialized lighting as of yet because I am not sure what to buy. My tank is about 2 weeks old currently. These are all the questions I have for now. Any responses that I get will be greatly appreciated.

Well what I did when I first started was search pictures, posts, etc. To see what I had in mind. Then I pretty much followed their advice for a couple years. Now I pick and choose what I think will work. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Serious patience is involved tho. Good luck I would read in the New to the hobby forum first.

Well here's a picture of my tank and the lighting I use on it. I just took the picture so the lights are out.

Pretty much it's just a 150w MH with a 10K bulb. I'm also running two actinic T5 retro fits and a lunar light. It does well with my anemone and lots of good soft corals like mushrooms, xenia, and poylps. I haven't had a whole lot of luck with SPS. I was for a while, then they all died at once and I just gave up. I'm just going to wait till I graduate from college to get a nice high tech aquarium to have SPS, but an anemone and soft corals are very easy to take care of. My tank is also rubble, I think the sand bed is a ticking time bomb, I think the reason my sps died was because I stirred up the sand one day and all of a sudden the flesh started falling off my corals. Not fun. Rubble looks more natural to the reef anyway.
