View Full Version : Elevating a hot magnetic ballast

I picked up some ballasts for free along with some spider reflectors, and was concerned with heat buildup from the ballasts. I want them to be safe and to not be a fire hazard that i have to worry about. Is there a quick diy route for me to maybe elevate the ballasts using a metal stand maybe on a piece of tile or something? The floor the tank is on is carpeted and i'm suspending the reflectors from the ceiling ( i have tile cieling).
Any tips, suggestions, solutions would be greatly appreciated :)

You can get enclosures from Lowes, but you could also use an old PC case and install some fans to keep them cool.

I put mine in a steel box from a yard and mounted it in the basement

by mounted, do you mean sitting on the brick? or did you drill it, mount it, etc
