View Full Version : HELP! My Tank is Overrun with Green Algae

I realize there have been several algae postings of late, and I was hoping somebody could help me with my massive algae problem.

I have a 3yo tank. I switched to RO/DI water some time back. I do a 15-20% water change weekly. I have two fish - a Foxface and a Sailfin Tang, plus assorted clean-up crew. I am very stingy about how much I feed, so I don't have too much left over. The tank gets no sunlight. I have a HOB Protein Skimmer. My lights are only on about 7 hours a day. My tank readings - Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate - are 0.

My problem....the tank is absolutely covered in green algae - LR, Pumps, you name it....if it's in the tank, it is covered. I am at my wits in. Also, I start getting a film on my glass within a couple of days of cleaning the glass off.

I am ready to pull the LR and pumps out, stick them in a bucket of salt water, and scrub them down, to try to get rid of the algae, since it makes the tank look horrible.

Does ANYONE have any ideas what may be happening, and what I can do about it?

Thanks!
