Will a pump on timer work for a top off? I was thinking about using a small Via Aqua pump on a timer to top off my tank a few times a day. Has anyone done this or see a problem with it?

I don't know about where you live, but up here in Detroit, I've got different evaporation rates depending on the weather/time of year. I'd rather run a float switch instead of changing a timer every couple months . . . .

you can with a very slow consistent pump, like a peristaltic. that's what most of us with litermeters do, it's just a pump with a built-in timer that is calibrated to volume.

i would not even think about trying it with a small powerhead. you;d want a float switch in that case.

I use float switches and a small aqualifter pump and mine works great. ;)

Here is a digram of a simple one that works well.
