Hello all you clam experts out there I just have a simple question for you about lighting.

Is a 70MH 14000k fixture (sunpod) powerful enough to keep any type of clam in a 1 foot deep tank?

thx

This question is tough to answer. What type of clam? Directly under the light? What water treatement (ie- carbon, ozone, etc.)? It may be possible, but the core principle of clam husbandry is that they require intense light, and this appears a little on the light side.

Ive kept a maxima under a 70w MH 14k for about 6 months now ands its doing great. Although I keep mine directly under the light, about 6 inches below the surface and feed phyto twice a week.

I guess the crocea species are the ones that I'm most interested in. The only water treatment I have right now is a bag of Chemi-Pure. The clam would sit about 18" away from the light itself.

Too far away from the light in my opinion, what kind of tank do you have? My 24 Aquapod is around 18in deep and I went for the 150 Sunpod, my Crocea is up high about 9 inches total from the light and he is alright there.

last i've heard is that the 70 watt bulbs aren't very efficient as they are still relatively new bulbs to the industry.

I have one of those 70watt 14k's and they barely grow mushrooms.
