Do you know how much time a dyed coral start decoloration? I bought a unknow coral (possible pagoda, size about two quaters) is a red color about a one and a half month ago, I am not sure yet if it is a pagoda because this coral have three things which confuse me. First, it retract all it polyps at night, second, polyps are about 2mm in diameter and third tissue is very thin and flat about 1.5mm. Those thing do not match with the pagoda coral characteristics.

A couple of fellows from RC told me that this is a dyed pagoda coral, I can not find for sure if it or not. However I would like to know when it suppose to start decoloration in order to watch it very close.

that really looks like Turbinaria peltata to me. They can retract all the way flat. I like to call them MPS medium polyp stonies
(Galaxia too :D). The scroll Turbinaria (T. reniformis) has much much smaller polyps.

I got nothin' for you regarding how long the dye takes to fade :D
IF it is dyed.

Has that coral shown any new growth?
That would probably tell the story because new growth should be the natural color. (like along the lower right edge there)

also, that's a pretty deep saturated color, so maybe that's the way it really is. Time will tell.

If that is not dyed, that is AWESOME. That's coming from an SPSer too...

I agree, look for the color of new growth.

I bought a dyed cabbage leather. My skimmer went crazy and I had almost red skimmate for about a week and a half. It finally faded to it's natural color after about 3 weeks.

A RCs member told me about the red skimmate, however I did not notice any red color in the skimmer from the day I got the coral.

Frick-n-Frags, I did not notice any new growth yet I took several photos to see new growth but only a small part upper right seem to be growing but I am not sure yet, I will wait another week before take another picture and compare it.

What about a small (young) Red goniopora? Could be? When I touch it, it retract his polyps very fast. Is this a Pagoda behavior too?
