I have a dilema on my hands here. My tank has been up since September06. I have a DSB with pluem, Wet/Dry w/protein skimmer, 2 max 1200, 2max 400. My nitrate 0, nitrite 0, ph 8.4, amonia 0 as of this week.

I can't til if what I have really growing is coraline algae or
problem algae. So here is a link to some picture of my problem. http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/extrememc/

If you look at the powerhead shot there is brown growing there. On another PH there is like neon green, purple hair type algae growing there. My tank looks health in a since but the algae is a eye sore for me. I am starting to believe it is my water source, but I have been using this same water since my tanks started. The algae growing on the PH and overflow box really started growing when I add this light http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/power_aqualightT5.htm to the back of the tank and this light is in front for now http://www.saltcorner.com/sections/reviews/productreviews/aqualight.htm. Mine is a 30" in length. What do I do?

Looks like red slime & Cyano algae to me.

I had it very bad at one time also. I would check phosphate levels and even if you read close to 0 I'd still run something like a PhosBan reactor.

At a last resort I'd use red slime remover, but it will work, at lest it worked for me. Now all of my red slime is gone and I just have a small touch of Cyano. However now I have a lot of green hair algae growing on my rock's but I'm letting it go to try to get rid of the Cyano and then I'll get rid of the hair algae.

I'll move this to the main forum as it isn't a chemistry issue. :)

Here is my idea. If this is Cyano which I think it is. I was think that I could clean my tank walls, rock w/toothbrush/and powerheads and then do a 25% water changes. Also clean the bottom of my sump and skimmer to try and get a handle on this. What's your thought?
