skimmer and cycle

It does because there are always stuff dying off the rocks that will be picked up by the skimmer.

yes, the skimmer can shorten a cycle!... but don't use it as a way to cut corners. Make sure water parameters are stable before stocking it, even if there is a skimmer. In addition, many skimmers need a break-in period. During this time, the skimmer is not as efficient, so during a cycle period, there is a lot of organics to remove and a skimmer can break in with ease.
