I have one rock of GSP and one rock of the branching type of metallic star polyps. Both were opening everyday for about a week after I got them and now they both will only open about halfway every other day or so. What can I do to get them to open fully everyday. I am trying to frag and it is hard to frag if they aren't growing very fast. Also, how much flow do they need over the coral itself(how close to my maxijet-600 powerhead)??? PLEASE HELP!!!!

For flow i'd have it so they're steadily swaying around (like long grass on a windy day).
But what are your water params?
Temp
pH
SG
nitrates
etc../.

I have a hydor-flo rotating wave maker on the maxi-jet 600
my parameters are as follows:
temp- 80F
salinity is 1.023
nitrate- 0
calcium- 440ppm
for supplementation I use SeaChem Reef Complete and Reef Builder as well as Kent Marine Phytoplex, Microvert, and Zooplex

Check to see if anything is bothering them...fish, other corals, etc.

GSP are also pretty finicky beleive it or not. when they are closed up look and see if you see any red fungus or any fungus at all. It tends to grow on them and every once in a while you have to take a soft tooth brush and brush them off. they wont open back up for about 3 days though after you do this

A new turkeybaster is a good way to clean off sediment too!
