Extension tubes change your minimum focusing distance at the expense of the infinity setting. You use them, generally, on non-macro lenses to make them more suitable for macro work. They aren't "adapters" or anything like that.

Also, that 2X TC turns your f/2.8 lens into an f/5.6 lens.

I heard that the Canon 1.4x TC wouldn't work (I don't know about the 2x) as the elements didn't have enough room. Some people overcame this can would place a small extension tube between the TC and 100mm, but I didn't want to do that. The Kenko 1.4x TC works without any extension tube. Are you sure you want the 2x? I didn't hear very good results with the 2x.

Blazer, perhaps you know more about this specific setup than I. I saw that they were both the EOS setup, and couldn't imagine why they wouldn't work.

StCraft, in light of my recent uncertaintly, please check with someone who knows. :)

Do you have a link of the discussion where you hear that ?
All about the aperture ?

You should do a google search about the 100mm and TC's since I didn't bookmark any specific information. I know that the Canon TC's WON'T work though, they don't list the 100mm as one of the available lenses with either the 1.4x or 2x. The Canon's TC's have a protruding lens element that would touch the back of your 100mm so you would need at least a 12mm extension tube between them. But both Sigma and Kenko 1.4x and 2x TC's will work. I personally ordered the Kenko PRO 300 1.4x TC for like $120 shipped, half of what the canon costs. I decided to not go with the 2x as I heard the diffraction is pretty bad at any f/stop and the 1.4x will be more useable. You can also get a set of extension tubes, but you will have to get closer to your subject which isn't always possible in a fish tank. I hope this helps.
