View Full Version : can i buy a byropsis substitute plant?

i want a lettuce nudi and i have a byropsis plant about 4 inches high in my tank but to keep a nudi long term i need a lot more than that... is there any plant i can buy to put in my tank weekly or so to feed it ?

i heard lettuce nudi's like to feast on dead fish..

Are you sure you "plant" is Bryopsis? 4 inches tall is not anything I've ever seen from Bryopsis. There really isn't anything you can substitute besides Bryopsis since they're very specialized feeders. People are going to get really tired of me saying this, but they're not nudis, they are sea slugs.

Well it depends what species of lettuce slug you have. Most feed on other species of algae like Halimeda or Penicillus which you can buy, but you have to be able to figure out which of the slugs you have and match the appropriate food. There are at least 3 recognized species sold as lettuce slugs and probably many more that look nearly identical. To add to the confusion, scientists aren't quite sure which species of slug eats which species of algae.
