I have an old ASM G2 with a crappy rio pump I want to replace. I’m considering either the Sedra 3500 or the Sedra 5000. I’m going to make the mesh modification to whichever pump I get. My question is would the Sedra 5000 work fine if I raised the skimmer up (1-2” ?) to allow the pump to fit in the intake? I’m concerned that there would be too much flow with the Sedra 5000 and that the skimmer cup would overflow. If that’s the case I’d rather get the pump that it’s rated for, the 3500. Does anyone have experience with using the Sedra 5000 with the G2 and what needs to be done to make it work? Would it be overskimming for 200 gallon system with medium to light bioload?

I have a G2 with the sedra 5000 on my 75 gal tank. This thing rocks! I also plan on doing the meshwheel mod this weekend to it. I did nothing different except wrap plumbers tape around the fitting to ensure a tight fit.
