how do you know your skimmer is doing a good job

am i looking @ how much water it pulls in the cup, or how dark what little water you do have is, mine never gets more that 2in in the cup, but its dark

"BUT IT'S DARK" That's good. Depends on your tank's occupants and stocking. You say it never gets more than 2" in the cup, is that per day, week or ..... 4 ever....

make sure you clean the neck and collection area below the cup when you empty the cup. It'll stop skimming for an hour or so but the cleaner neck area and riser will make the skimmer more effective.

What kind of skimmer is it? What kind of stuff do you have in there? How many fish?

it can go longer than a week, i just empty it to clean the cup, its real thick in the tube part, its a aqua c
