I just switched out the stock pump with an MJ900 but was wondering if anyone has used a MJ1200 instead? It doesn't seem like the 900 is moving a lot of water. This is my first nano after breaking down my 55 last Fall. I was so used to seeing so much water movement in the big tank that this nano with the MJ900 doesn't seem like enough. Also, not sure if the MJ would pull more water than the tank could handle. Oh yeah, I'm just planning on keeping some softies and zoos for any of you helping me with my flow options!!!

I'm running a MF1200 in my 12g nano. It's got good flow. Tank just getting starting and I'm only going to have zoas and mushrooms.
I have a 55 gallon as well, and the difference in flow is extreme.
I guess it just depends what you want to keep.

Thanks. While waiting for a reply I installed a MJ1200, much better...I guess the return hose takes a little flow away. Waiting for my LR to arrive tomorrow!! Should be interesting and looking forward to smaller everything compared to the 55 including $$$

I shorten the return hose until there was almost none of it left. That made a big difference too. Also used some of that LOC-LINE to direct the flow.

can anybody give me a description of the loc-line part that you use?

google "loc line" or go to Dr Fosters and Smith and look under plumbing

I use a 1/2" Locline Y and 2 nozzles.

I was using the MJ1200 but it heat up the water too much. Added about 3 degrees over the MJ900. My tank was running just below 80 degrees with the heater set at 76. Fine for now, but in the summer it might be a problem.

I switched to the Rio 6HF which gave me amazing flow and no temperature problems. Problem is I have a very, very fine sand for my watchman goby and was getting sandstorms. So it was really TOO much flow for my tank.

I am back to the MJ900 and although its not incredible flow, its enough so that I dont get sand kicked up off the bottom.

If you want to try the Rio 6HF let me know. I will give it to you for a great price.

Thanks...I'm going to stick with the 1200 for now. I just posted a thread on a heater issue too. I'm sure the 1200 is heating up the tank but doesn't seem to get over 78 right now. I'm using a 50W heater but not getting a consistent emp as the the room temp in the house fluctuates a lot. I just tried turning it up a notch to see what happens today while I'm at work. I turn the heat down in my house while away and the tank drops from about 77-78 to 73-74. I'm considering using a higher wattage heater until the weather warms up around here. What wattage heater does everyone use?
I found and ordered the loc line parts too! I have couple of days before LR comes in to work out the kinks!!!

I use a 50w heater in my tank and it seems to work just fine. What kind of heater is it?
