maybe there is such a thing as a dumb question.............does a 300w heater mean it uses 300 watts.....when the heater is on, it's equivalent to having 3 x 100 watt lightbulbs running?

Depends on what you are asking. If you are asking if a 300W heater uses the same amount of power as 3-100W light bulbs, then yes. If you are asking if the produce the same amount of heat, then no. A heater uses it's 300 watts towards heating with little loss towards anything else besides resistance. A light bulb on the other hand is an inefficient way to produce heat as some of the power goes towards giving out light instead of heat.
