The person i got my PM frag from said that it likes high light. A) Is this true? B) How high, I have a nice spot about 5 " below the water surface, would this be good? I am using 2 x 175W Iwasaki 15K, plus a bunch of actinic(check my sig for details).

Thanks for any help on where I can place this guy.

Which 250's?? I am trying to compare PAR on Sanjay's site so I don't bleach my coral.

The problem is 250's can be 40 ppfd or 136 ppfd!

you'll be fine. I have mine under XM 10ks. Puts out around 115ppfm. Your iwasaki's put out ~70ish? You can place it up high if you like. If you want to be safe, just light acclimate it.

86 ppfd, but, either way, looks like my spot will work. Thanks for the help guys.

good luck with it. Its a VERY slow growing coral haha. But since its an expensive coral, just acclimate it from the middle of the tank to where you want to permanently place it up high.

Dave,

Let it acclimate in your tank light then I will suggest move it higher not all the eay to the top but - 6-10 below the surface. I am running 10k ushio 250w.. :)

I have two 250's with 14 k's. but, I would place it in the middle. but start it at the bottom and work it up to the middle. weeks at a time. to play it safe.

I have mine 6-8" below the water surface. I used to run 1000w MH 20k Ushio. Now with my dual 400w HQI ballast and Reeflux 10k the PM look even better.

BTW, Reeflux 10k with HQI ballast produce 170PPFD :)

Wow, you guys have yours pretty high. Mine's exactly 2' from a 400W bulb. It seemed to color up better for me when I lowered it. It's also slightly shaded, and my lighting is more full-spectrum.

It is in my redhouse. I don't have any access to my redhouse or photo bucket with this computer. I can post them tonight :). I know what you are trying to do Reef-Daddy

I see some slight differences, but that can be caused by certain variables. Especially, with all the blue lighting.

Like reeferpnoy said, if you can trace it back to Tyree, you're golden. The lineage for mine is: me; via Sand Dollar, via Leonard Ho, via Tyree;)

6" from the surface, right between 2 400 watt 20k Helios on HQI ballasts in this pic.

Nice growth, you like those Helios?

CAreefer
03/09/2007, 08:42 AM
I do. However, I've got the Reeflux in there right now, one of the Helios died (they were at the end of their life anyway) and Eric was in the process of moving and needed bulbs, so went with the Reeflux. I need to switch over to the E-ballasts for energy savings and see what each of them look like. I've got one of the RL running on the CV E-ballast right now and it is visually whiter than the HQI. HQI runs them at 520 watts or so. Sanjay has no data posted on the IceCap ballast w/RL 10k, but the CV is 419. Life span should be better on either eballast as well.

I place mine about 12" from my Radium 400 PFO HQI's.
