ballast question

hey....

is there really any difference in ballasts?

i have aquired 2 400 watt MH ballasts. they are 120 v just like any other 400 ballast.

they are not icecaps or PFO or anything... just ballasts i was going to splice to my sockets. i have been doing it with other MH for years and never really noticed any difference in color in coral or problems.

would they be less powerful than a brand name ballast?

Depends on the ANSI code on the ballast.

Icecap has a little higher par and wattage. Don't know if it's worth price difference really.
