Hi, got my first fish yesterday - pair of clowns. They're both feeding really well already, the only thing is that the one starts looking really pale in the dark and looks like it's gasping for air. This stops straight after turning the lights on. My mrs thinks it's scared of the dark  , so I'm on here for a more proffessional opinion. Thanks

That's perfectly normal behavior for nighttime. All fish have some sort of pretection behavior at night. Lots of fish get very pale, or even white so that they blend into the sand and other surroundings so they don't become dinner for predators that feed at night. As long as your fish color back up within a few minutes of the lights coming back on you have nothing to worry about.
