Hello, I am looking at CPR hang on refugiums for my 30 gal tank. How big of a refugium should I get ?

There are:

small - 13.5" L x 4.5" W x 12" T - 2.5 gals
medium - 19" L x 4.5" W x 12" T - 3.60 gals
large - 25" L x 4.5" W x 12" T - 4.70 gals

Thanks !

i'd get the largest you can fit on the tank. Larger is always better when talking about tank size or refugium size. The larger refugium will hold larger pod populations and also larger amounts of macro algae wich in turn can remove larger amounts of nitrates and phosphates from the water column.
Go Big!

fwiw, the little 10g DIY fuge I made for my 55g has maybe a 5g fuge section in it, and it filters my 55g perfectly. I'd actually like a little bigger fuge but since 10g tank is the only thing small enough to fit under my stand, it's what I used.

Does anyone know of a hang on refugium where the powerhead ISN'T in the main tank ? I'd rather not see it...I suppose I could make one out on an AC hang on filter maybe....

You know that you can build a refugium in the main tank itself simply by sectioning off a small portion so your fish can't get to it. It can be all but invisible if you use acrylic... certainly looks better than a HOB fuge. Place a single piece of acrylic with small holes in it to section off a back corner and pile some rock in it. Instant fuge.

As large as you have room for.
