As of now my two filters that I am running is a Aqua Clear 110 and 70. The 110 has a sponge and then packed with biomax. Does biomax have the same effect on saltwater that it does in fresh???? In the 70 I have a sponge and will be putting biomax but I have carbon in there for now to remove any impurities from the setting up process. Once I remove the carbon is it required to have carbon in the system??? in FW i never used carbon unless I wanted to remove meds or other chemicals. After they were removed I removed carbon again. Does it work the same way with SW????

There is really no need for bio media if you have enough live rock in your tank. 1lb per gallon is a good starting point. I'd keep the sponges out too as they will contribute to nitrates. Carbon is fine.

I would remove the bio media out of the filters completely unless you have a shortage of live rock and sand in the tank. They'll only add to the nitrate load in the tank. The sponges are fine to leave in since they definatly help to mechanically filter the system, you just have to be sure to rinse them at a minimum of once a week. Twice in my case. Carbon on the other hand. You'll hear a bunch of opinions there as well, I run carbon after alot of fragging or after "medicating" or whatever, but don't run it constantly.

ok so biomax is a no no and sponge is not needed either??? well what exactly do I put in a Aqua Clear filter then??? just run it empty???? If I run them with sponges for mechanical and rinse them everyday then there will be absolutley no bio filter in the tank.

k wait let me get this straight....... so your telling me that if I lets say buy another 20 lbs of live rock which will put me at 70 lbs in a 65 gallon tall. That I can basicly run two Aqua Clears basicly for current with no media in the trays what so ever. Or just have a sponge for mechanical and rinse it every other day and keep killing off any bio filter in there?????
Would it be smart of me to fill the Aqua Clear with small pieces live rock???? wouldn't that make more bio filter????
