Hey all

I received this Hippo Tang from a friend of mine. As you can see in the pictures it has some problems.

My friend originally bought this guy that was in a tank with a mean trigger at the LFS. he said the fish had most of its tail missing.

He's had the fish for several months. Since moving to college and keeping his tank at his parents house, the tank was in despair - dirty, algae ridden. Its important to also mention my friend doesnt research anything about marine life. He just buys.

Note the discoloration on the nose and the mark on its right side near the gill. I suspect this is due to a poor diet. My friend fed it mysis shrimp, bloodworms, and flakes. NO greens whatsoever.

Im not an expert on disease identification so I wanted to get some opinions on what its problem may be.

The discoloration on his face. If you look at it close it just looks like a lack of blue pigment. No craters or anything.

And the mark on its face, this is more like a hole of some sort.

Any tips or treatment recommendations I can get would be appreciated. Thanks!

You are correct. Your Hippo needs some good food and lots of greens.

He has MHLLE (Marine Head and Lateral Line Erosion).

You should try all sorts of greens, nori and get some vitamines into her like zoe and selecon esc.. Even try some macro algea.

With time and a good diet it should start to heal. More often then not with a proper diet they will get better. FYI; HLLE can cause 'scars' if the pitting/holes are deep enough.
