well i just received my 36 inch lighitng system. 2x 96 watt CF all acentic + 1 250 DE HQI. and franlky the MH bulb is a little yellow. when just the acentics are on, it creates the awesome neon glow effect i desire. but when the MH kicks on. it drowns it out.

i belive my bulb is a 10k. ( came with my aquatraders light )

i was thinking of upgrading bulbs to a 14k or a 20k
but than wondered if there would be enough white spectrum for the corals to grow.

and wondered if using 50/50 bulbs instead of pure acentic bulbs would be beneficial or not.

has anyone tried a combo like this before? or is it ruled out for some reason i dont know.

The 14,000 K and 20,000 K bulbs do tend to be a bit weaker in PAR. You'd probably be fine, though. The actinic supplements are for your eyes, so whatever looks best to you is the way to go. :)

This site has a lot of data on bulb efficiency:

I wouldn't judge the 10,000K bulb by the Aquatrader's bulb. Mine said 10,000K also but I swear it's a 2700K since it's so yellow. The 14K seems like a happy medium but some of the other 10K look nice also.
