Which light fixture should I get?

I have a tank that is 24"w by 20"d by 18"h. Approx 35 gallons.

These are the two lights I am thinking of getting.

24" Tek Light T5 Hood with 4x24w/T5 bulbs
Maristar 24" 1x150watt Double ended 1 MH with 2x24w/T5.

If I get the Maristar will it make a difference on what I will be able to keep in the tank or will I be just cooking my water, supporting the electric company, and getting that pretty MH shimmer?

That depends on the efficiency of the bulb and ballast, but the MH setup could deliver more light. That might be useful for some animals, in my opinion, but a good T5 system will work well, too. I just don't know how many T5 bulbs you might need for that setup.
